There has been much confusion over the true origin of the cat known today as the Persian cat. Persian cats originated in Persia, which is modern day Iran. As one of the oldest breeds of cat, the Persian cat was probably interbred with Angoras. This makes knowing the true ancestral history of the breed difficult to identify. Persian cats in the UK are called Longhair or Persian Longhair.

They have very short legs and a long coat. There was some discussion in the US about trying to bring about a new type of Persian cats in NC, but this new type of Persian cat was not accepted by Persian cat breeders. The other issue with this trial introduction of a new type of Persian cat names was that it was only a slight difference from another type of Persian cat. A Persian cat breeder is very specific about the coloring of his cats, though Persians can come in all sorts of colors. Their markings include points, tabby, blue, and tortoiseshell. Black and white Persian kittens are even a possibility.

Persian kittens are tiny little balls of fur. A Persian kitten is very playful. They are good house cats, and they can also be shown. Persian kittens for sale in the US and the UK are often from breeders. There are few Persian cats for sale that are not bred specifically to be show cats. If you are looking to show cats, Persians are a great option as they are not only beautiful and well bred, but they also make terrific pets.

One common Persian cat health problem is sinus problems due to improper breeding. Persians tend to have very short muzzles, and this is sometimes exaggerated with bad breeding practices. Most good breeders are now looking into breeding Persian cats that have a more moderate head size, rather than the preferred small head size. It is the size of the face and muzzle that can cause sinus problems in a Persian cat. Another issue with cat health is the Persian problem of eyes not being clean. A Persian cat often has a hard time keeping his eyes clean so they must be checked often. Persian cats have too much fur to keep themselves clean. They must be washed, dried and combed every week. Ideally, their fur should be brushed daily to prevent clumping and other fur problems that Persians can encounter.
