House cats are wonderful pets. Some people take the term literally and keep their house cat inside all the time. This is a great option for some, but other people prefer to let Fluffy outside. In either case, there is something that every cat needs: a cat house. Cat houses are a great addition to any home or backyard.

You can easily find an outdoor cat house for your cat, or you can find an indoor cat home. When searching for the perfect exotic house, cats’ houses need to be sturdy and warm, with a place to hide and a place to scratch. For an indoor cat house, a litter box inside may be an option, though it is not necessary. Outdoor cat houses do not need to have a litter box. Cat outdoor houses must be certified for outdoor use, especially in the case of rain or snow. An outdoor house for cats that does not protect against the elements is not very good cat housing.

There are tons of different designs for cat housing. Some companies make cat houses that are simply utilitarian in appearance. Others are more decorative. There are cat houses that actually look like miniature people houses, with fake gardens and everything. And there are ones that look more like a rabbit hutch.

If you are a professional or even an amateur carpenter, you can find cat house plans and build cat houses. Your own special cat housing for your favorite feline friend is a terrific option. Just remember to pick the right plans for your area. Cat housing in Oregon, for example, may be different than cat housing in Florida. Be sure to get your plans from a reputable company. Otherwise, you may end up with a design that does not hold up against strong winter winds or hard rains.

Indoor cat housing is a different story. While these should still be very sturdy, they need not be weather proof. Keep in mind when you are purchasing or making cat housing what size your cat is. If he is very large, you will want to be sure the doorways are large enough. If you build a cat house that is high off the ground, be sure it can hold your cat’s weight. If you have more than one cat, take both cats into account when deciding the weight limit for the cat housing. It should be able to hold both cats simultaneously.
